Syria On My Mind

I'm not sure how I feel about Obama's decision to strike Syria.  On the one hand it is a tragedy that chemical weapons were used in the Syrian civil war, but on the other hand what is the point of getting America involved in this conflict?  If the Saudis, Iran, the UAE and the other powerful rich countries in the region are not willing to flex their muscles in Syria, and if the United Ntions is not willing to strike Assad, then America should stay out of it.

In Syria there is no clear line defining who is a bad guy and who isn't. We can claim that Assad is the only bad guy,but the problem is that there is no true leader on the other side ready to steady the ship and keep Syria from a decade in the wilderness.  Attacking Syria is only going to flame the fire of hate against America in the region.  On top of that what will happen is that a lot of civilians will be killed.  This will create an entirely new generation of young people who hate America and want to see it destroyed.  Syrians are not going to hate America for not getting involved.  What is happening in Syria is not America's business.  It is time for the US to stop behaving like an empire and start taking care of business at home.

Obama is in a tough spot because no one with a heart can look at what is happening and just sit back, but he must refrain from getting the US involved, and truly earn his Nobel Peace Prize by allowing the rest of the world to take care of it.  And if the rest of the world decides to ignore it, it will not be America's burden to bear.

Cruz for President

Good old hypocrisy seems to be well and fine in American politics.  One thing that clearly highlights it is the fact that some people think Senator Ted Cruz is a presidential hopeful.  Forget the argument that his politics don't appeal to the general American citizen.  Forget the fact that he was once close to the George W. Bush presidency.  Ted Cruz was born in Canada to a Cuban father and an American Mother.  I find it appalling that people can entertain the idea of a Canadian becoming president of the United States, yet Republican nut jobs have spent a great deal of time since 2008 questioning the legitimacy of President Obama's tenure.  Obama was born in Hawaii, and even that was not enough for the Republicans.  Yet they're okay with a Canadian running for president?  Where is the outrage at suggestion that this overzealous junior Senator from Texas is even thinking about the idea?  Where is Donald Trump and the like?  Why are they so silent about this?  or does it only matter when the Democratic black guy is running?

American race relations have always been terrible, but it is increasingly clear that in this new age we're entering, some people have a real problem with people generally considered part of the minority being in power.  I have nothing personally against Ted Cruz, though I disagree with pretty much everything he stands for politically, but this absurd level of hypocrisy is beyond absurd.

Republicans Losing their Lunch

The Republicans believe they have all it takes to win the presidency in 2012, but they can't seem to agree on who their candidates will be, and there is in-fighting in their camps.  Usually I would not care about that at all, except for the fact that Sarah Palin is in the middle of a row with fellow Republicans.  I'm dying to see Palin come out as the Republican nominee, because I know she won't stand much of a chance.  She's probably the weakest member of the Republican party, and I believe the Tea Party members know that and they're doing their best to push her out of the way for the likes of Michelle Bachmann.  I really hope Palin fixes things with her fellow Republicans so she can win the nomination and Obama can fly through the next election.

Health Care and morons

It's politics as usual in the US now that the health care bill has been passed, with the opposing party doing the one thing they're really good at doing. What stuns me about this entire process is that the politicians enjoy the very same thing that most people are hoping to get.

The fact that a politician who enjoys free health care paid for by the taxpayers can deny that very same health care to the people that elect them into office is quite astonishing. This hypocrites are basically angry that they might lose the corporate backers that pay for their expensive lives. I believe the majority of people would really appreciate the day when politicians go into office with their residents in mind. Imagine the kind of world we would be living in if elected officials actually did their job?

Kudos to Obama for fighting for the everyday people.

Oh Fu*k Off

So this Rev. Jay Scott Newman thinks that Catholics who voted for Barack Obama are putting their souls at risk. Is this guy freaking serious? I’m a catholic, and have been since birth. And I am pro choice. It really gets under my skin that the Catholic Church think that their way is the best way. People have their personal reasons for wanting an abortion and morons like Rev. Newman should not be in a position to tell people what they should do or that their souls are at risk because they chose a politician who happens to think a woman should make up her own mind. Is the Catholic Church trying to tell us that women should shut their mouths and accept what their husbands and their fathers want of them? This is ridiculous. If a woman does not want to have a child or does not feel ready to have a child, then it is her prerogative. You can’t tell a woman or a young girl who has been raped that she has to keep the child because it’s against God’s law to kill a fetus? What a load of crap. The Catholic Church has a lot of in-house cleaning to do before it can pass judgment. As a Roman Catholic, I can honestly say that I’m thoroughly disappointed in the Catholic Church and its attitude. And further more I am disappointed in whoever let this asshole Reverend Newman keep his position. If the church thinks it knows what’s best for women, then it has made a serious mistake in self evaluation. Abortion is not a pretty sight, it’s not something I would ever advice someone to take part in, but I cannot fathom the day when I will make that decision for a woman. The church should know it’s place and serve its people as it is supposed to do. Leave the moral decisions to the parishioners. I don’t go to a priest to help me decide whether I should have a child or not, and I don’t think priests have the F—ing authority to berate people for choosing a candidate who happens to think that the freedom of choice is more important than the opinion of the Catholic Church.
